             HOW TO FIND A

           TMJ "SPECIALIST"

In Dentistry & Medicine the word Specialist means a doctor who's expertise has been certified by a Specialty Board. Note that above I have placed the word "Specialist" in quotation marks.  That's because at this moment in time there is no certifying Board for TMJ.  However, there are many Dentists who limit their practice to the diagnosis and treatment of TMJ disorders, and  if possible this is the kind of Dental "Specialist" you should try to see. Here's how to find one.

1. Contact the dental school nearest to you. Ask for a list of their TMJ teaching faculty. Contact one, and make an appointment.

2. Contact the Executive Secretary of your State's Dental Society. People in this position generally know who's doing what where,

3. Go to the American Academy of Orofacial Pain's Web Site at http://www.aaop.org and click on Members.  You will find members in your State, Province, or Country. All members of this organization are by invitation only, and all are highly qualified.
